What does the Bible say about Abortion?

Abortion is wrong.

I hope this is helpful to Christians in understanding why abortion is wrong.

  1. Exodus 20:13, “You shall not murder.” – This is one of the Ten Commandments from God. Murder is taking the life of someone who is innocent. God is clear that we don’t have the right to take the life of someone else simply because we don’t like them or we feel we would be better of without them.
  2. Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – God creates every child in the womb and has a purpose and plan for each child even before birth.
  3. Galatians 1:15-16, “But when He who had set me apart even from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood.” – Paul shared that God created him and call him to ministry from the womb.
  4.  Matthew 22:37-40, “And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.” – Jesus says we are to love each other as we love yourself. Taking the life of your child is the most unloving thing you can do. If you love your child, you will protect his or her life.

Here are some verses for Christians to think about.
